I had a great time out on the water with Thenna today for our Mate's Fee Only Card Shared trip with SRS Adventures. We kicked off at 1:00 am from St. Petersburg, which is pretty early, but it's perfect for catching the fish when they're most active. May is a fantastic month for fishing in St. Pete - the water's warming up and the fish are getting more active, especially on the flats.
The weather played nice with us, staying partly cloudy throughout the day, which is ideal for flats fishing. We had great water conditions, making it easier to spot the fish. I decided to mix things up and use a variety of techniques to see what would work best. Flats fishing is all about adapting to what the fish want, and today was no exception. We moved around a bit, trying different spots and methods until we found what worked.
The highlight of our trip was definitely when Thenna hooked into a nice Red Snapper. These fish put up a good fight, especially in the shallow waters of the flats. It was a solid catch and really made the trip worthwhile. Throughout the day, we had a few more bites and near-misses, keeping things exciting. Even when the fish weren't biting, just being out on the water, enjoying the Florida coastline, and watching for wildlife made for a great day.
