Discover St. Pete's Flats: Sunrise to Sunset Fishing Excitement!
I had a great day out on the flats with a guest from SRS Adventures for our Mate's Fee Only Card Shared trip. May in St. Petersburg is prime time for flats fishing, with warmer waters bringing in a variety of species. We met up at 1:00 am, which is earlier than usual, but it gave us a chance to really make the most of the day. The weather started off a bit iffy, but it cleared up nicely in the afternoon, making for some great conditions on the water.
We tried out a variety of techniques throughout the day, working different spots on the flats. The water was great, which made it easier to spot any fish that might be hanging around. We worked hard, moving from spot to spot and changing up our approach to try and entice a bite. Though we didn't manage to land any big prize, we still had a great time out on the water, enjoying the scenery and good company.
Even without hooking into anything, there's always something to learn and enjoy on these trips. We saw some interesting wildlife, talked fishing, and just enjoyed being out on the flats. It's days like these that remind me why I love guiding - it's not always about what you catch, but the experience of being out there and trying. The clearing weather in the afternoon made for a beautiful end to our day, with some great views of St. Petersburg as we headed back in.
