I took Shankaramurthy out for an early morning fishing adventure in Florida, KY this June. We kicked off our trip at 1:00 am, taking advantage of the cooler pre-dawn hours. The weather was partly cloudy throughout the day with storms possible, which can create some interesting fishing conditions. Despite the potential for storms, we were determined to make the most of our time on the water. As a guide with SRS Adventures, I was excited to provide Shankaramurthy with the best experience possible on this Mate's Fee Only Card Shared morning trip. Florida, Kentucky offers productive fishing opportunities for largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish in the small farm ponds scattered throughout the area. Anglers should target submerged brush piles and weed edges in 5-10 foot depths for bass, using soft plastics or jigs. For bluegill, fish crickets or worms near shoreline structure. Catfish respond well to cut bait or stinkbaits fished in deeper holes, particularly after dark.
We employed a variety of techniques to target our quarry, including sight fishing, using a popping cork, and working soft plastic jerkbaits. These methods proved effective in the flats environment we were fishing. Our persistence paid off when Shankaramurthy hooked into a nice Red Snapper. After a good fight, we brought the fish to the boat, measuring an impressive 23 inches. Red Snapper are well-suited for the waters around Florida, KY, offering anglers a challenging and rewarding target species.
