Flats Fishing Triumph: Red Snapper Victory in St. Petersburg

I had a great time out on the water with Shankaramurthy for our Mate's Fee Only Card Shared trip with SRS Adventures. We met up in St. Petersburg at 1:00 am, ready for some flats fishing action. June in Florida can be hit or miss with the weather, but we lucked out with partly cloudy skies and just a chance of storms. The water looked great, which had me feeling good about our chances.

We focused on sight fishing, flipping, and pitching - perfect techniques for the flats. It took a bit of patience, but it paid off when Shankaramurthy hooked into a nice Red Snapper. That fish put up a solid fight, but Shankaramurthy handled it like a pro. When we got it in the boat, it measured a respectable 23 inches. Not bad at all for a day on the flats!

Even though we only landed the one Red Snapper, we had plenty of action throughout the day. We saw lots of fish moving around, and had a few close calls with some bigger ones that just wouldn't commit. That's fishing for you - sometimes they bite, sometimes they don't. But the important thing is we were out there, enjoying the day and the challenge.
