The weather, the water — everything pointed to a solid trip when I met up with thenn and their crew in Florida, KY for our afternoon outing in June. As we set out at 2:45 pm, partly cloudy skies loomed overhead with a chance of rain in the forecast. The water conditions were Koppa, which presented some interesting challenges for our walleye pursuit. Despite the potential for precipitation, we were determined to make the most of our time on the water. As a guide with SRS Adventures and the test1, I was eager to show thenn and their crew what our local waters had to offer. Florida, Kentucky is home to Lake Cumberland, a large reservoir known for its clear, deep waters and diverse fish populations. The lake's rocky shorelines and submerged timber provide excellent habitat for species like striped bass, walleye, and crappie. Numerous coves and creek arms offer varied fishing environments, while the dam tailwater supports a thriving trout fishery in the cool waters below.
With our gear rigged and ready, we employed a mix of baitcasting, bottom fishing, and live bait fishing techniques to target walleye. These methods are particularly effective in the diverse underwater terrain of our fishing grounds. While we didn't land any monsters this time out, the walleye we did catch were well-suited to the structure and forage available in our summary location. No fish length data available for this trip, but every fish brought to the boat was a victory given the challenging conditions we faced.
For anglers looking to experience the thrill of walleye fishing in Kentucky's premier reservoir, I can't recommend SRS Adventures enough.
