Walleye Bonanza: Clear Creek Action in Florida, KY
From the first cast, I knew it was going to be one for the books as I took thenn and their crew out on the waters of Florida, KY for an afternoon of fishing in June. We set out at 2:45 pm under partly cloudy skies, with a chance of rain looming throughout the day. The water conditions at Koppa were prime for our target species, promising an exciting few hours on the water. As a guide with SRS Adventures, I was eager to showcase our test1 package and put my local knowledge to work. Florida, Kentucky is home to a unique fishing opportunity at the Floyds Fork Creek, a tributary of the Salt River. This waterway features diverse habitats including deep pools, riffles, and undercut banks, supporting populations of smallmouth bass, rock bass, and various sunfish species. The creek's limestone bed contributes to excellent water clarity and provides ideal conditions for aquatic insect life, forming the basis of a productive food chain for the fish populations.
With our gear rigged and ready, we employed a variety of techniques to entice the walleye. Bait casting allowed us to cover water efficiently, while live bait fishing and bottom fishing proved effective in targeting the deeper holes where walleye often hold. These methods are particularly well-suited for the diverse structure found in Florida, KY's waterways, giving us the versatility needed to adapt to different spots throughout our trip. Walleye, with their keen senses and sometimes finicky nature, responded well to our carefully chosen tactics in this environment.
As our afternoon on the water came to a close, I couldn't help but reflect on the unique experience that fishing in Florida, KY offers. The combination of diverse habitats, clear waters, and healthy fish populations makes this an angler's paradise.
